Public Should Be Able to Buy a Stake in Non-Public Companies - SEC Chairman

"The private markets are awash in capital these days," said SEC Chairman Jay Clayton in an interview highlighted by the Wall Street Journal. "The question is, who is participating?" Companies today are staying private for longer, and raising more money while they do so. Allowing traditional retail investors to participate in these deals would provide them with more diversification opportunities, as well as a chance to benefit when these companies go public, says Clayton.
